Monster Project is a 2nd generation Volvo 70 build for 2008/09 Volvo Ocean Race for the Russian backed entry. She was christened Kosatka (which is Russian for Orca or Killer Whale). Kosatka was designed by British designer Rob Humphreys and built by Green Marine in Lymington, UK.
Monster Project is an incredibly versatile proposition for any potential new owner. The Volvo 70’s original setup lends itself to being modified into a highly competitive IRC race yacht as has been seen by the Volvo 70 Wizard. If winning Ocean racing is your goal and you have the appetite to optimise an already great design then this could be the perfect project.
Alternatively the concept of the Volvo 70 design; safety, self sufficiency, reliability and durability makes it an ideal charter yacht with sails lasting longer and running costs at a reasonable level. In addition the large crew number, speed and performance potential make it an exciting charter option. Less experience crew can race the boat safety and enjoyably with a small core crew that understand the systems and more experienced crew can push the boat to its full potential.
All systems have been serviced and mantained between October 2019 and end of January 2020. The engines have been checked and reinstalled, a new saildrive has been installed and all the electric power supply renewed. The antifouling was renewed by Sydney City Marine in January 2020.
