Pata Negra – Marc Lombard IRC 46

Pata Negra is a prototype IRC 46 design by Marc Lombard and built by CSC Composites in 2016. Marc Lombard is renowned for designing some great offshore racing yachts, including IMOCA 60ʼs, Class 40ʼs and Mini’s. Pata Negra is a great example of this offshore pedigree and has a proven track record of podium results offshore including overall winner of the Round Britain Ireland 2018, 1st in class in the RORC Caribbean 600 2020 and 2nd in class in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2017. She is a popular racing yacht, and has a great potential for an owner  to combine private usage with charter to reduce the cost of ownership.

Her twin rudders give her phenomenal control off the wind, her foredeck layout with hank on forestay, inner forestay and bow sprit gives crews flexibility on sail plan.  Pata Negra isnʼt simply a great offshore boat she is a great all rounder and has never failed to delver on the race track or when cruising with the family. With a carbon rig, asymmetric sail plan and 10 sea berths make Pata Negra an exciting package that ticks a lot of boxes.

Keel

The keel is single straight fin with no bulb made of cast lead, total weight is approximately 3,600kg (3,400kg of cast lead – 11.2 density) with a steel fabricated head to bolt the assembly to the hull bottom.
An epoxy fairing is done all over the keel to refine the shape using reference templates.

Rudders

Twin rudders: built in composite in a female mould (Machined 3D wooden plug).
Rudder stocks are built in stainless steel (HR F16PHgrade) double tapered.
Rudder bearing are self aligning.
Steering linked to a Jaffa car and adjustable rudder bars for tuning the toe of the rudders when racing.

The rig maintenance has been managed by All spars rigging in the UK since 2017. Each season the rig has been de-stepped and inspected with replacement diagonal shroud, back stay and all turn buckle terminations replaced in 2020.

Accomodation

Below Decks “Pata Negra” is a fully equipped cruiser/ racer with a focus on a practicality and comfort. This was a serious focus for the owner during the original build and with the higher free-board and raised coach roof design. There is standing head room in most areas, with a lot more compared to similarly performing yachts.
For weight saving and ease of maintenance, all the composite shells (hull and deck, main bulkheads) are faired with epoxy type light filler and spray gun PU painted for nice finish.
The furniture are mainly built using plywood panels (8, 10-12mm), marine grade.
All of the sole boards are Foam sandwich bi-axial fiberglass with a 2 mm laminate of wood.

2nd heads of the salon, 2 bunks in the salon either side above the seating area. (3 double beds and 4 single berths)

Aft Cabins

2 double bunk aft cabins with additional pipe-cots,

Galley

There is an “L” shape galley on the port side with 1 heat resistant working surface, a double sink with 1 tap and a dish drainer (hot and cold water), 2 burner hob and oven, 1 fridge/freezer and 2 x 220 V sockets

Main Cabin/Salon

The main salon is asymmetrical, with an L shape bench on port and simple bench on starboard. There is raised pilot berth above the seating area on both sides. The table is central with fold down wings on either side (balsa sandwich construction). The central part of the table also form the chart table with simple seat.
Lee cloths with solid top rails for all berths.
The second head / wet weather looker is off the salon with toilet, shower and washbasin.
