The Cape 31 is a simple clean high performance One Design, conceived by prominent sailor Lord Irvine Laidlaw in combination with designer Mark Mills. Created as a strict one-design class so the true test when racing is between sailors and not boats.

This Cape 31 usually sails 7 up, with an owner driver and a mixed crew of amateurs and professionals. The Cape 31 has proven itself at not only being a great boat for racing one-design, it is also extremely competitive under its IRC rating of 1.135 when taking on some of the UK’s top IRC designs. In 2021 the Cape 31 had some impressive results, winning multiple IRC events. |
