The Oldest Trophy in International Sport
The America’s Cup, often referred to as the oldest trophy in international sport, has captured the imagination of sailing enthusiasts since its inception in 1851. Originally called the £100 Cup, later renamed the America's Cup after Yacht America, which won the Royal Yacht Squadron race around the Isle of Wight in 1851. The competition has evolved into a symbol of maritime excellence and innovation. The event is characterised by fierce competition between teams representing different countries, each vying to challenge the current defender in a series of match races. Over the years, the America’s Cup has become a showcase for cutting-edge technology and design in the sailing world, with teams investing significant resources to develop state-of-the-art yachts capable of reaching remarkable speeds on the open sea.

The competition is held in a variety of locations around the world, further adding to the challenge as teams must adapt to different sailing conditions and environments. The America’s Cup continues to be a thrilling spectacle and pushes the boundaries of what is possible in yacht racing.

Louis Vuitton Challenger Selection Series
The Challenger Series is where the America’s Cup kicks off! It starts with six Challengers lining up alongside Defender Emirates Team New Zealand for fleet racing on the Bay of Naples, never done before in the modern Cup. From there it's a triple round robin of head-to-head match races, boats trading tacks and overlaps at close range, before the top three go straight to the semi-finals and the rest fight through a repêchage for the last spot. Semi-finals run first-to-five, the final first-to-seven. Win that, and you've got the Louis Vuitton Cup and a shot at Emirates Team New Zealand.

38th America’s Cup Match
The 38th America's Cup Match begins on 10 July 2027. The defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, will face the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup (Challenger Selection Series) in a 13-race Match. The winner of each race scores one point. The first team to score seven points will win the America’s Cup and become the defender of the 39th America’s Cup.

Youth and Women’s America’s Cup
The Youth and Women's regattas run alongside the Challenger Series. Both the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup regattas will initially compete in a series of fleet races. The top teams from each pool progress to the final series of 3-4 fleet races. The top two teams progress to the final to compete in a single match race to determine the overall winners of each event.
