After a two-decade absence, one of offshore racing’s most legendary events is making a spectacular return. The Admiral’s Cup is back for 2025 – and there’s no better way to witness the inshore action than from the deck of a Cheetah Catamaran, right in the heart of the Solent.
A World Cup of Offshore Sailing
First held in 1957 and organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), the Admiral’s Cup quickly established itself as the unofficial world championship of offshore racing. National and yacht club teams from across the globe competed in a series of gruelling offshore and high-stakes inshore races.
Over the years, it’s seen some of the greatest moments in sailing. Great Britain has claimed the title nine times, followed by Germany (4), the USA and Australia (3 each) – with Australia currently holding the cup. Other winners include France, Italy, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, reflecting the global prestige of this event.
Now, in 2025, the Admiral’s Cup returns to Cowes, Isle of Wight, with a revised format designed to honour the regatta’s roots while welcoming a new generation of competitors.
