J/99
What’s so great about the J/99?

Great sailing performance plus below deck comfort of a cruiser.

AT 32.6” the  well-designed layout and sail plan, optimised for easy handling, mean that the J/99 can easily be managed by one or two people. Whilst that roomy cockpit can accommodate 8+ for a day sail. So whether you plan for a full crew or a shorthanded adventure, the J99 delivers. And at a competitive price too!

Despite it’s affordability, it is packed with attention to detail. Features that really make the J/99 include the floating jib system, the 48:1 cascading backstay system leading to both sides of the cockpit. Both of the self-tailing main winches are within easy reach of the helm. The 8:1 inhauler system, Cunningham, double-ended boomvang and cockpit-led outhaul all show the level of attention to detail that has gone into the J/99. Available with a single centreline, balanced rudder or the twin rudder configuration (great for the auto-pilot on short-handed offshore trips. There is also the option for a wheel configuration.

Below the deck the space is pleasing to the eye, designed with clean lines, roomy and uncluttered. Two full-length settee berths come with optional flip-up pilot berths. With the creature comforts  the L-shaped galley has everything you’d need for a weekend cruiser – a stove, inboard sink, pressure water system and an ice box. A drop leaf cabin table, usually on found on the cruising J’s, is a nice bonus. To the starboard is a forward-facing sit-down nav table. The matching double aft cabins come complete with privacy doors. The forepeak is set aside for the head and sail storage.

So the J/99 is versatile, comfy and agile. Its balanced hull form and efficient cockpit and that versatile sail plan make it a great boat for a weekend sailing with friends or equally as manageable for short-handed offshore adventures. That versatile layout means you can get 2 – 4 crew sleeping on the windward side to ensure the optimum weight distribution, or up to 8 for a weekend cruise or regatta. You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck as well as plenty of sailing options.

But it’s affordability doesn’t mean any corners have been cut. This is a lovely bit of construction and engineering – exceeding the ISO 12215 requirements of Category A offshore sailing. The hulls  resin infusion molding process is built for longevity and is environmentally friendly too! .

The J/99 with it’s custom-engineered alloy section developed specifically by AG+ is designed to take both a mainsail with a bolt rope or captive slides , all with no adaptation required – meaning an owner can switch between an inshore bolt rope main and a short-handed one on sliders. It’s unique integral mainsail track allows for luff cars or bolt rope. This innovation also eliminates many metres of fasteners and glue and allows engineers to take full advantage of the increased stiffness of that hull. This really is a beautifully thought-out piece of engineering. The new fixed bowsprit design retains enough length to use a powerful asymmetric spinnaker but also allows owners to switch between symmetrical and asymmetrical setups without penalty – a factor that is proving increasingly popular in the displacement offshore classes.

But the J/99 is not just for short-handed racing circuits, the J Sport will suit sailors who love inshore and offshore racing.  The J/99 will improve your sailing performance, and can best be described as serious fun – fast, agile yet manageable – what’s not to like?!
