What to expect

This ocean passage offers a challenging 600NM of open ocean sailing. A chance to experience the change of conditions from tropical Bermuda, across the Gulf Stream and towards springtime in Rhode Island. A unique experience for those looking to push their boundaries and develop a true breadth of sailing skills.

There should be a fair number of good weather windows for the passage which will be exploited. Expected conditions in a good weather window, would be a fast reach with following seas from Bermuda to the Gulf Stream. Once in the Gulf Stream, it’s like being on a moving sidewalk, rapidly tracking north. Approaching the coast of the USA means an increase in marine traffic, tides and of course gets us to the eagerly anticipated landfall in Newport- all of which offers phenomenal training opportunities, particularly for intermediate to advanced sailors.

Crew should expect to be fully involved in the preparations in Bermuda, and helping Panacea get cleaned up and settled in once we land in Newport. Underway, everyone will take turns with food prep, standing watches, and keeping everything shipshape for a safe and successful passage.

Salona 45 – Panacea X

Designed and built in Croatia by J&J Design and AD Boats, the Salona 45 is a racer cruiser. Big headsails and masthead kites mean it catches the wind even in the light stuff, which works well, also tough in windy conditions as well. The steering is light, responsive and the boat balances well in 20-knots. The Salona 45 stands out...
