What to expect

The Round Ireland Yacht Race is Ireland’s leading offshore sailing event, held every two years and covering a 704-nautical-mile circuit around the Irish coastline, with Wicklow as both the start and finish. As the longest non-stop offshore race in the British Isles, it pushes crews to their limits against Atlantic swells, strong tides, and ever-changing weather, while showcasing iconic landmarks such as Fastnet Rock and the Giant’s Causeway. Drawing elite sailors from across the globe, it is celebrated for its tough challenges and breathtaking coastal scenery.

16th June – Join Mad Dash in Hamble for welcome and safety briefing ahead of delivery passage to Wicklow
20th June – Race start
25th June – Estimated finish

Crew information

The skipper is Sam Tregelles who started his jounety on the water at just 3, in his mum’s sailing school in Salcombe. His passion has turned into a profession leading flotillas in Greece for four years as a lead skipper, delivering yachts from the UK to Malta, crossing the Atlantic, and sailing extensively throughout the Caribbean. Sam loves sharing his passion for sailing with anyone from complete beginners to those looking to deepen their sailing skills.

Prerequisite experience

Previous offshore sailing experience is required and we would strongly encourage you to have completed your World Sailing Sea Survival Course.

Where

The course is 708nm starting and finishing in Wicklow on the East Coast of Ireland. The fleet head off South, leaving Ireland and all its islands (excluding Rockall) to Starboard. Why not charter a truly superb racing yacht for the event and experience it for yourself!
