What to expect

Join the crew of Celeste of Solent on this cruising passage from Portugal to Cowes. You will pass the most Southwestern part of continental Europe and head North. The route will include a few stops on the way to La Coruna in Northern Spain. Potential stops include Nazaré, Porto, Baiona and Illa de Monteagudo. These will planned together and take into consideration the weather. There will be a stopover in La Coruna to prepare for crossing the Bay of Biscay, en route to the hidden paradise of the Scilly Isles and from there to the final destination of Cowes, ahead of the Fastnet Race.

Itinerary

5th July: Crew arrive in Lagos, Portugal. Dinner ashore in the evening
6th July: Provisioning/Safety briefing prior to departure
6th – 9th July: Cruising along Portugal and Spain*
9-10th July: La Coruna
11-13th July: Crossing the Bay of Biscay
13th to 14th July: Scilly Isles
15th – 16th July: Cruise to Cowes
17th – 18th July: Arrival in Cowes

*Stops will be made on the way to La Coruna which will be planned as a crew and taking into consideration weather. Potential locations are Nazaré, Porto, Baiona and Illa de Monteagudo.

Crew information

Svante Jacobsson – Skipper
Svante has been sailing his whole life and has a strong background in racing on everything from dinghies to 65ft offshore racers. He has sailed National, European and World Championships more than 15 times and held all positions onboard. In the last 20 years he has been more focused on Skipper, Helm and Tactician. Svante has sailed on Celeste for the last 4 years, logging over 25,000 nm onboard including 3 Atlantic crossings, incl ARC 2023 (placing 2nd in large cruising division) and 2 West to East crossings as First Mate. He has also skippered cruising tours of the Caribbean, the Azore and the North Sea. Svante is currently studying to become a Master Mariner.

Accommodation

On longer passages, over open sea with night sailing, crew alternate between the berths in the aft. Under way, it is most comfortable place to sleep.
