The VO65 Jajo is a high-performance racing yacht designed for offshore racing at the highest level. Built by Green Marine, the boat features cutting-edge design and construction techniques, making it both fast and reliable. Jajo was originally built for the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race, where it was skippered by the legendary sailor Bouwe Bekking. In the race, she had a successful run, finishing in second place overall, just behind the winning boat, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. Since then, Jajo has continued to perform well in various offshore races, including the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Transatlantic Race. In 2021, the Jajo competed in The Ocean Race Europe, where it finished in fourth place overall. Jajo features state-of-the-art navigation and communication equipment, as well as a high-tech sail inventory that allows it to perform well in a wide range of conditions. She has been completely stripped and had a 450k refit by Royal Huysman in summer 2022. Nothing is left to chance to make her fast and reliable for the next edition.

Equipment

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

  • As a part of the weight-saving design concept, the Volvo 65 employs 24-volt DC electrical systems
  • This allows weight saving by minimising wiring size compared to a more common 12-volt DC system
  • Mastervolt lithium-ion batteries save as much as 70% in weight over more traditional battery technology
  • These are recharged via two NEW heavy-duty Mastervolt alternators with 150-amp output
  • The alternators are driven by the main engine; low-current-draw equipment, high alternator output, and a very high recharge acceptance rate for the lithium-ion batteries minimise engine run time
  • 2 x Mastervolt Lithium batteries
  • Battery charger
  • 2 x 150 Amp Mastervolt alternators on the main engine

PLUMBING SYSTEMS:

  • SPECTRA watermaker – Cape Horn Xtreme model. Can be run on one pump for efficiency or two for speed. 15G / hour

  • Full NDT in Summer 2022
  • 99.4’ / 30.30m rig height
  • 7’ / 2.14m bowsprit length

  • Mast was designed in-house by Southern Spars using the DesMan and RigCalc software packages, integrated with the North Sails design software
  • Structurally, there are 202 pieces of Carbon Fibre pre-preg in each mast tube, with an additional 52 patches of structural reinforcement
  • The Volvo Ocean 65 sports a 7.68m racing box boom built from high modulus carbon and weighing 68 kg
  • The rigging consists of nine separate stays and is constructed from intermediate modulus carbon fiber
